South American Harp Concert
Jamie Castillo will be performing with his 5 piece band Café Y Petróleo, including a second harpist, and an assortment of acoustic guitars and mandolins at The Keystone Theatre in Towanda, PA. on Saturday May 22 at 6:30PM.
Jamie has played at Carnegie Hall. I've known him for years and heard him play. this performance may be a bit far away, but it will be worth it.
Towanda Musical Society Honorary member and well known South American Harp Artist, Jaime Castillo has been breaking musical barriers since his first public appearance at the age of 15 performing at ?El Cardenal de Plata Music Festival?. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Jaime began his musical studies at the age of 12, learning traditional acoustic instruments such as the acoustic guitar, requinto, tiple and cuatro at the ?Academia de Música Cuellar?. However Jaime's love for the harp would take him through a different journey, one he would dedicate years to master. A Project Manager with DuPont, Jaime studied in New York under the direction of well known Metropolitan Opera Orchestra associate harpist Susan Jolles. Later he continued his studies with several professional harp and recording artists including René Devia, Fernando Lizarazo, and Isaac Tacha. The musical group Café Y Petróleo directed and co-founded by Castillo has been performing for three decades making appearances with Arnulfo Briceño, Carlos Julio Ramirez, and Hernán Quintero, leading exponents of Venezuelan and Colombian folklore.
Café Y Petróleo has delighted audiences in the New York City area including The Museum of Natural History, CAMI Hall, The Waldorf Astoria, and Carnegie Recital Hall. Jaime and his musical ensemble Café Y Petróleo are a dynamic group of talented artists that include Venezuelan harpist, singer and cuatro player Clodomiro Falcón, singer and cuatro player Jorge Méndez, cuatro & capachos player J. Eduardo Castillo, bandola player Dora Castillo, and bass players Juan Hernández and Jeff Lockhart.
