Harps Ensemble

Director: Meredith Kohn Bocek

The Harps on the Susquehanna harp ensemble has been a dream of Meredith Kohn Bocek for several years. If the sound of one harp is lovely, then, the sound of many harps is indeed music of the heavenly spheres. This ensemble came together over a year ago and is made up of area harpists. Each member adds spiritual and musical dimensions to the group. It is our goal to touch and bring joy to people's lives. The ensemble will perform tunes from the British Isles as well as pieces by classical composers.

Meredith Kohn Bocek, director, After 20 years of performing as a free-lance pedal harpist, Meredith transitioned to folk harp because of her love of the ringing timbre of these harps and currently plays for many special occasions. Folk harps are smaller than the pedal harp and are lighter strung. Their sound is every bit as lovely as that of their larger relative. Meredith's repertoire includes Celtic, South American, Baroque, light classical and folk music as well as contemporary ballads. She enjoys introducing the harp to audiences at coffee houses and restaurants and often speaks about the history of the harp and the pieces played. Playing the harp has been a lifelong endeavor for Meredith and she is very excited to present to you Harps on the Susquehanna!
